Overwatch by SatoPrints
Three steps: plug in the board, run one command, send a message in Claude Code. It takes about two minutes.
This computer
Checked from this browser against the program on your own computer. Nothing is sent to SatoPrints.
Step 1
Connect Overwatch to your computer with the USB cable it came with. If you use your own, it must be a data cable, not a charge-only one.
Step 2
Copy one line into a terminal on the computer the board is plugged into.
Windows — in PowerShell
irm https://www.satoprints.co.ke/overwatch/install.ps1 | iex macOS and Linux — in Terminal
curl -fsSL https://www.satoprints.co.ke/overwatch/install.sh | sh Prefer to download it yourself? All downloads, then run it with install.
Step 3
Open a terminal, run claude and send any message. After Claude replies, the dials fill: your 5-hour session on the left and your 7-day week on the right, with a countdown to each reset.
You need a Claude Pro or Max plan. The figures come from Claude Code's status line, which the Claude desktop app and the VS Code panel don't run. If you mostly use the Claude desktop app, Overwatch reads its session figure automatically (unofficial), and the weekly dial updates whenever you use Claude Code in a terminal. Codex is read automatically too.
The program isn't running or can't see the board. Use a USB data cable (charge-only cables have no data wires), try another port, and run the install command again. On Windows, if Device Manager shows “CP2102” or “USB-SERIAL CH340” with a warning sign, install the USB driver from step 1.
Everything is connected; the board just hasn't received usage figures yet. The official source is Claude Code running in a terminal: run claude, send any message, and the dials fill after its reply (Claude Pro or Max plan). If you use the Claude desktop app, Overwatch reads its session figure automatically (unofficial; the weekly dial still needs the terminal), and it reads Codex automatically too. Update the Overwatch app if that isn't happening, and check Usage sources on your device's page.
Nothing to set up: once Codex has been used on the computer connected to the device, Overwatch reads only the rate-limit lines Codex writes in its session logs, never your prompts or replies, and shows Codex on its own page: tap the title at the top left of the dials to switch between Claude and Codex. Finish one turn in Codex for the figures to appear. You can turn it off under Usage sources on your device's page.
Overwatch starts itself when you log in so the dials are always live, and some antivirus tools flag any program that does that. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history, find Overwatch, and choose Allow on device. Message us if you'd like to check anything first.
Your account needs access to USB serial devices. Run sudo usermod -aG dialout "$USER" (or uucp on Arch), then log out and back in.
The board heard nothing from the computer for 30 seconds, usually because it went to sleep. It wakes by itself when the computer does; tap the screen to see the last figures.
Removes the program, the start-at-login entry and the Claude Code status line, and puts back any status line you had before.
& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\SatoPrints\Overwatch\overwatch.exe" uninstall "$HOME/Library/Application Support/SatoPrints/Overwatch/overwatch" uninstall ~/.local/share/satoprints-overwatch/overwatch uninstall
Flash the board firmware once, then follow the steps above. Download overwatch-cyd.bin from the
downloads page and write it at address 0:
pip install esptool
python -m esptool --chip esp32 --baud 115200 write_flash -z 0x0 overwatch-cyd.bin If the screen stays white or the colours look wrong, flash overwatch-cyd-st7789.bin instead.
Message us and we'll get it working with you.
